News Values and Codes of Ethics

Journalism codes of ethics consists of principles of good practice and certain challenges that journalists face. Therefore I must be aware of these codes before I plan what and how to broadcasts our news:
1. Report and interpret honestly, striving for accuracy, fairness and disclosure of all essential facts.

2. Do not place unnecessary emphasis on personal characteristics, including race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, family relationships, religious belief, or physical or intellectual disability.

3. Aim to attribute information to its source, do not agree without first considering the source's motives and any alternative attributable source.

4. Do not allow personal interest, or any belief, commitment, payment, gift or benefit, to undermine your accuracy, fairness or independence.

5. Disclose conflicts of interest that affect, or could be seen to affect, the accuracy, fairness or independence of your journalism.

6. Do not allow advertising or other commercial considerations to undermine accuracy, fairness or independence.

7. Do your utmost to ensure disclosure of any direct or indirect payment made for interviews, pictures, information or stories.

8. Use fair, responsible and honest means to obtain material. Identify yourself and your employer before obtaining any interview for publication or broadcast. Never exploit a person's vulnerability or ignorance of media practice.

9. Present sound which are true and accurate. Any manipulation likely to mislead should be disclosed.

10. Do not plagiarise.

11. Respect private grief and personal privacy. Journalists have the right to resist compulsion to intrude.

Analog Radio VS Digital Radio

Analog Radio VS. Digital Radio.

So what is Analog Radio and Digital Radio?
Analog radio broadcasting works by converting the sounds into electrical signals. The signals are then transmitted by a carrier wave to the analog radio reciever which then converts the signals back into audio.
On the other hand, Digital radio broadcasting converts the sounds into digital numbers which are then transmitted by a carrier wave to the digital radio reciever.

What is the difference between the two Radios?
To find the differences between Analog and Digital radio I have searched on the web and found a role play demonstrating the distinctions between both radios:

In many circumstances, Digital radio broadcasting is better than Analog, this is one reason why:

Digital radio offers many benefits when compared to Analogue radio. In comparison to Analog, Digital radio has:
1.  Astounding Speech Quality- no static, fading or noise.
2.  Greater Security- can't be eavesdropped with traditional scanners.
3.  More Features- GPS tracking etc.
4.  Direct Calling- you can call the radio directly.
5.  Longer Battery Life- generally 2-6 hours extra usage.
6.  Stronger Range- stronger signals at the extremities and gives a much further usable range.

Techniques on conducting the perfect interview

Techniques on conducting the Perfect Interview:

To conduct the perfect interview, the followig 10 steps must be considered to ensure the interview runs smoothly and uncomplicated.

1. Don't conduct an interview, have a conversation. One of the biggest mistake people make in the interview setting is to conduct it like it appears in a magazine (question and answer). Don't make that mistake. Forget about the questions and just have a comfortable conversation. Keyword: comfortable.
2.Do your homework. The only way to avoid getting stuck asking questions is to do so much research that you don't need them. Know your subject, know the issues and know what the public would want to know if they could sit down with the subject matter.
3.Don't stick to your agenda. To make matters worse, most interviewers follow the questions that they have lined up in the order they wrote them, instead of letting it flow based on what the subject is saying. I've seen many great follow-up conversations and side-tracks lost because the interviewer was following their flow instead of the flow of the conversation.
4.Have notes, not questions. It's ok to have some notes about concepts you would like to discuss, but don't hold it in your hand and look down at it - that will break the conversation and turn it into an interview.
5.Ask open ended questions. Always start your questions or commentary with words like "how" and "why". Those two words can never be responded to with the words, "yes" or "no". If you want something more than one or two word answers, use words like "how" and "why".

News values determine how much prominence a news story is given by a media outlet. it is split into the following strate

Negativity- Bad news is good news for the editor. The listeners normally listen to the news because they want to know the bad things that are going on in the world.
Timelessness/Currency- Events that happened recently or people who are current generally are more newsworthy.
Proximity- News that is close to the listener.
Prominence- Famous/Important people on the news.
Conflict- Events and people that feature major conflict, disagreement or war.

How do the news values help journalists make decisions?

When journalists decide whether to run with a particular news store, news
values need to be considered.
Normally the story must perform well in at least two news values.
